This week sees Safeguard’s Education and Community Lead Ben Ingham begin a training and fitness regime in readiness for his trek up Mount Kilimanjaro.
It’s all in aid of Mahdlo and happens in March 2015, but preparations for one of the biggest challenges he’s ever faced can’t wait and he’s taking it all very seriously.
Ben says “Climbing mountains has never really been on a list of things I wanted to do but when Mahdlo asked for my help I wasn’t going to say no. This is a massive personal as well as professional challenge so it’s cutting back on the rich food, the alcohol and doing lots of exercise, before and not after Christmas. The timing’s rubbish but I’m determined.”
Ben has already raised over £1000 in sponsorship and is aiming to fill his backpack with even more cash for Mahdlo. He continues “Many of our customers have said they’ll sponsor me and their generosity means that I’ve got lots of people who want to see a good return on their investment! I want to do well and raise the profile of all the good work that Mahdlo do, but also encourage other businesses to get on board and if they can’t join me scaling mountains then give up their time as well as some cash to help the next generation of young Oldhamers.”
