The Big Draw 2015
Saturday 3 October saw The Big Draw, the World’s biggest drawing festival, come to Mahdlo.
Seven artists looked at different forms of drawing with the aim of encouraging young people to explore creativity for themselves and to help them move away from the idea that they can’t draw.
Artist, Vincent James, explored The Big Draw theme of Every Drawing Tells A Story by creating a time-lapse communal piece while Choreographer, Kirsty Green, combined dance and drawing on an enormous piece of paper.
Andy Powel from Hack Oldham engaged young people in creating Doodlebots – motorised drawing vehicles. Involving circuits, batteries and felt pens this was the perfect combination of art and technology.
Fanny Gogh, who specialises in mixed media, led a workshop in drawing dynamic Superheroes and arranged for a special surprise – Kent Osborne from Cartoon Network drew us our very own Mahdlo Adventure Time cartoon!
Mahdlo’s own art workers also delivered a range of exciting activities including batik, portrait drawing and a wonderful map charting the life journeys of Mahdlo members.
Thanks to everyone who made the Big Draw a big success and we look forward to doing it all again next year!
