Over the weekend 24-26th October, our Duke of Edinburgh groups embarked on their final Bronze and Silver Award expeditions. Amanda, our D of E Coordinator, told us more about the weekend:
Saturday
All young people arrived early or on time looking rather tired and as though they had been dragged out of bed – well, it was Saturday morning at 7.40 am!
We drove to the Peak District and the heavens opened, so we stopped to make sure everyone had their waterproofs ready.
Both groups set off with their maps, walking to the first checkpoints, and we met up with them along the way. When we had all reached the campsite, there was time to put up the tents and cook a meal.
Sunday
After enjoying a big breakfast to set them up for the day, the groups set off around 9.30am. The Bronze group were briefed at the end of the day – they had successfully passed their award and were driven back to Oldham. The Silver group set up camp and cooked a 3 course meal.
Monday
The group all rose early, eager to get on with the final day. They were in good spirits and met us at the allocated check points to complete their Award that day.
The whole three days went really well and the young people participated very well and engaged with the activities and supported each other.
