Exciting news!
Elliot Eastwick, who hosts the Revolution 96.2 Breakfast Show, is going to be taking part in our firewalk on Tuesday 15th March, raising money for Mahdlo. He will be joined by members of our team, young people who attend our sessions across Oldham, local businesses and supporters from the community.
The firewalk will form part of the ‘Love Oldham, Love Mahdlo’ event, celebrating our 4th birthday and opening the doors to the community for an evening of family friendly fun, games and refreshments. Last year, the event raised an incredible £6000 and Claire Crossfield, Development Manager here at Mahdlo, is hoping they can surpass that this year: “As a charity, we are reliant on the support of local businesses and communities to help us keep Mahdlo accessible and affordable for all. We’re so excited to have Elliot on board and we hope he will inspire more people to take the challenge and face the fire for Mahdlo.”
Elliot said, “I’m proud to be part of the 4th birthday celebrations for Mahdlo. It’s the sort of facility I’d have loved when I were younger. The Firewalk is a brilliant idea, though I’m already worried about doing the wrong thing. I’ve been looking for a pair of fireproof shoes on eBay, but no luck so far.”
With full training and support from everyone at the event, we’re sure he’ll be fine! Matt Ramsbottom, Managing Director at Revolution 96.2 explained why they wanted to support us: “Mahdlo is a truly amazing space for young people. It’s really helped to make positive changes in Oldham, and we’re really pleased to be part of the birthday celebrations. As the local radio station, we’re always keen to get involved with projects like Mahdlo. I’m wishing all the firewalkers the best of luck, but I think I’ll be sticking with the spectators!”
