Manchester United legend Paul Scholes visited Mahdlo this weekend (12th October) as part of a fundraising day by recruitment company Rowan Group, which saw £5,000 donated to the charity.
Scholes, who is an honorary Patron of Mahdlo, led a Q&A session for parents and children during a breakfast meet and greet. Questions put forward by the crowd, and a few excitable parents, included; what advice he would give to a young footballer now, which team was the best he had played against, and who was the best player he ever played with. (For the record, it’s Ryan Giggs!)
After breakfast it was time for a kick-about, with Scholes taking a series of coaching sessions for the children before taking part in a match alongside the former United midfielder.
The event was run as part of recruitment company Rowan Group’s fundraising for Mahdlo, with the firm donating an incredible £5,000 to support the charity’s work in Oldham.
Claire Crossfield, Fundraising Manager at Mahdlo, said: “Paul has been a supporter of Mahdlo for a few years now and this event is always a massive highlight for everyone involved, especially the children.
“It was absolutely fantastic to see so many faces light up when Paul walked into the room and we can’t thank him enough for coming along and putting on a fantastic Q&A and training session.
“I want to say a huge thank you to Rowan Group for once again donating such a generous amount to Mahdlo. These funds will go a long way to ensuring we are able to continue supporting young people across Oldham and the surrounding area.”
