Mahdlo Youth Zone is a state-of-the-art multi-million Pound location providing young people aged 8 to 19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs, engaging and exciting opportunities to try something new, seven days a week.
We’ve got incredible facilities including a 3G Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) pitch climbing wall, boxing gym, three court sports hall, sensory room, fully equipped gym including weightlifting equipment, recreation area and dance, arts, music and media suites and much more.
The role
Our Duty Lead Workers work directly with young people and supporting, but not line managing, our team of youth workers, volunteers and young leaders to deliver the exciting and engaging sessions we’re known for.
You’ll be working in our Senior Zone sessions in the evening and at weekends with young people aged 12 to 19, or up to 25 with a disability, and an ideal candidate will hold a JNC recognised professional youth work qualification or are be working towards/willing to work towards a recognised youth work qualification.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- To work closely with the team to deliver a high quality programme of senior and/or junior zone activity that is safe, innovative, challenging and directly responds to the diverse needs, concerns and interests of our members.
- Directly support young people to develop their social skills, build their confidence by providing programmes of activities, services and facilities at Mahdlo which will take place during evenings and weekends and may include school holidays and occasional residential work.
- To be the responsible manager during sessions and to provide the lead worker function on one Senior Zone session (alternate Friday and Saturday), and to provide lead worker cover for additional sessions to cover annual leave and sickness as required by the organisation.
- To ensure that the youth work delivery is carried out in a planned, systematic and coordinated approach.
- Ensure the participation of young people and that their ideas contribute fully in the, delivery and evaluation of sessions, projects and activities.
- To have responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people at all times.
- To monitor, record and evaluate work as required in order to ensure a consistently high quality youth work provision and demonstrate the impact of the Youth Zone.
- To understand and adhere to Youth Zone policies and procedures.
- To be an active member of the team and deliver a focused, measurable contribution to the Mahdlo’s overall strategic plan operating in line with Mahdlo’s values and principles.
