Building confidence and resilience in young women
The Stronger Sisters project inspires young women aged 13 to 19, particularly those from ethnic minorities, and supports them to build confidence and resilience.
The project aims to reach many more young women that need us, those who are traditionally excluded from other services and those who are otherwise hidden.
Groups meet regularly for 20 weeks, taking part in specially facilitated Support Circles. Members also take part in activities, such as trips to the Manchester Women’s Museum, and have opportunities to engage with community events and national days, such as International Women’s Day.
The stronger sisters project:
- Engages, empowers and supports young women from ethnic minorities to have a voice in decision-making.
- Works to drive systematic change to the way women from ethnic minorities are supported, we do this by evaluating the project and sharing the outcomes with wider community stakeholders to show its impact.
- Showcases how young women from ethnic minorities can be supported; challenging the status quo, and creating a movement of lasting, transformative change.
- Builds on the strong existing local partnerships we have and creates cross-community support and opportunities for young women, as well as creating new partnerships and working with new stakeholders.
- Works with education, statutory, voluntary and faith institutions, as well as communities themselves, to identify women for this project.
